Back in 1964, folk label Elektra released an LP called The Blues Project, an anthology featuring such big names (in the folk scene at least) as Dave van Ronk, Geoff Muldaur, Spider John Koerner, and Danny Kalb (who went on to found a band called the Blues Project). And then there was one song by a guy named Ian Buchanan, who promptly disappeared from view… hence the title of this, his only LP. It came out in 1969, but the sound is more pre-1966 – very little of the juiced-up blues-rock pyrotechnics of groups like Cream; this is mostly understated and rather old-timey, although not as retro as Ry Cooder or Leon Redbone. Buchanan provides most of the lead guitar, which is not bad but not outstanding, and most of the lead vocals, which are frankly not great; he sings thinly, with a tendency to yelp, although sometimes he does a back-of-the-throat thing that’s kind of interesting. There’s some pretty good harmonica, and the rhythm section is fairly basic. The track selection is nice; the ones that stand out the most are “Tombstone”, with slide guitar and highly echoed vocals (neither by Buchanan); a sparse and haunting treatment of Robert Johnson’s “Me and the Devil”; and “Desert Blues”, a highly camped-up version of an old cowboy song by Jimmie Rodgers. Whatever happened to Ian Buchanan after this LP is not generally known.

Himmel

A previously unreleased cult Norwegian psych-jazz OST from 1969! A hell of a jazz soundtrack from the Norwegian scene of the 60s – and a record that can easily go head-to-head with the best Italian film scores of the time! The movie's about some young kids trying out some new frontiers in the 60s – and the music has a vibe that really fits the story – sometimes more in a jazz club vein, with great soulful styles – sometimes a bit more freaked out, like those Italian soundtracks that add a slight psychedelic current to familiar instrumentation! Most numbers here are discreet jazz tracks, not just short soundtrack instrumentals – and the musicianship is wonderful, and much more fully-formed than if the tunes were brief. Players aren't listed, but the notes indicate that some top Norway jazzmen performed on the date – and titles include "Zatek's Tema", "Club 13", "Pytagoras", "Heaven & Hell", "Mote Med Hasj", and "Vigelandsparken". The album also features one vocal track – Inger Lise Andersen singing "Heaven & Hell".

Billy Lee Riley

Born October 5th, 1933, in Pocahontas, Arkansas

Died August 2nd, 2009, in Jonesboro, Arkansas

Billy Lee Riley was an American 1950's Rockabilly singer, best known for his recordings for Sun Records of Memphis.

Performed as part of the "The Little Green Men", the "house band" at Sun.

Considered good looking and with wild stage moves, Riley had a brief solo career with his backing band "The Little Green Men".

In 1960, he left Sun, and started Rita Record label with Roland Janes. He later started two other labels Nita and Mojo.

In 1962, he moved to Los Angeles and worked as a session musician with Dean Martin, the Beach Boys, Herb Alpert, Sammy Davis Jr. and others, as well as recording under various aliases.

In the early seventies, Riley quit music to return to Arkansas to begin his own construction business.

Rediscovered by Bob Dylan in 1992, who had been a fan since 1956.

His album Hot Damn! (Capricorn, 1997) was nominated for the Grammy.

Joe Jeffrey Group was an American rhythm and blues band that put a hit on the 14th position of the Billboard Hot 100 in 1969, and entered the charts of CKLG of Vancouver, on May 23, 1969, with the theme "My Pledge Of Love ". In the beginning, the band animated dances and garage parties, in the late 60s and early 70s.

The group had a meteoric career and quickly disbanded, especially after the band "White Plains" recorded the group's second big hit, "My Baby Loves Lonin '", which reached number? 115 of the Billboard charts, drawing more attention from the world audience than the song's own creative band.

John McVie (bass, vocals)
Mick Fleetwood (drums)
These tracks are from the show performed at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, captured during the Mac's short tour over there in February 1969, and broadcast on Dutch radio at an unknown date. It seems only the beginning and the end of the show were broadcast.

Very good sound with some analogue (radio) interference.

Strange atmosphere; Peter Green is in a bizarre frame of mind but in very fine form.

An eight piece band, River City Street Band became the first all white band signed by Stax (in this case the label's Enterprise subsidiary). Having located to Memphis the band recorded their debut in the famed Ardent Studios with Tim Riley producing. (In case anyone cared, Terry Manning was credited with playing Moog synthesizers on the album.) 1971's cleverly-titled "River City Street Band" offered up a somewhat odd mixture of hard rock and horn rock - imagine Chicago with the late Terry Kath calling the shots and you'll get a feel for the overall sound. Featuring a largely original collection of material penned by singer Tommy Boyd and bassist Dick Johnson, the album wasn't all that bad, especially for a horn rock excursion, but most of the songs would have been even better sans the horns. That said, for the most part songs such as 'Happy Song' and 'Lamp of Love' exhibited fairy tight and commercial structures that served to keep the horn section (Ethridge Hill, Tom Jones, and Dale Marlow) in check so this wasn't anywhere near as bad as your typical Blood, Sweat and Tears, or Chase album. The album also benefited from Byrd's nice voice. He had one of those instruments that was rugged and tough, but still capable of sounding quite commercial. The band also had a second lead singer who was featured on a couple of tracks (take a listen to 'People'). Beats me who it was ... The other surprise weapon came in the form of guitarist Bill 'Fuzz' Foster. Whenever Foster was given a chance to open up things quickly improved. Shame he wasn't allowed even more space.

Produced by Tim Riley, the band's sophomore release wasn't a major change in direction. With Boyd and Johnson again responsible for penning the majority of material, their sound remained firmly entrenched in early-1970s horn-rock (think along the lines of Blood Sweat and Tears, Chase and Chicago). That said, this time out the horns were actually a bit less prominent and on a couple of tracks ('Statue of Liberty' and 'Marlow's Catfish Song') there were no horns. So here's the funny thing - they were actually far stronger without the horns ...https://www.discogs.com/River-City-Anna-Divina/release/4696454

The band comprised members of the Allman Brothers Band’s road crew circa ’73-’74. This mix of covers and originals (blues, jazz, jams ) is exactly what you might expect from offshoots of the Allman Brothers Band family. An excellent album from good musicians who lived in the shadow of the ABB.

Dr. Marigold's Prescription

Members: Alan French (keyboards), Bill Friend (bass), Dave Morris (drums), Fred Radley (guitar, vocals).
In the early days Dr Marigold did back several artists to include:
Bruce Channel (USA), John Walker (Walker brothers) USA, The Flirtations, Madeline Bell, Dominic Grant was not a member of the band, although Dr. Marigold backed him for a while on a promotional tour.
DMP evolved from a group called "The Followers"based around North and East London in 1967. They took on a girl singer,a very good one,but lost her when they recorded their first single, released on the PYE label in 1969.They did work with "Billy Fury" on and off between 1968 and 1970 but were ambitious and wanted their own career. Their fisrt single was called "My Old Man's A Groovy Old Man"written by two members of 60's hit group the "Easy Beat".During their career they worked with the great "Bruce Channel"of "Hey Baby" fame. They appeared on the "Basil Brush" show twice, the "Roger Whittaker" show and many "Radio One shows".Not only were they a very professional outfit but were also very good friends and that friendship has lasted right up until now.

Это была песня "My Old Man's a Groovy Old Man" (Мой старик - балдежный старик), которая была хитом начала шестидесятых у группы The Easybeats.

В 1969 вышел второй сингл группы - "You've Got To Build Your Love On A Solid Foundation"/"Pictures Of Life".

Play And Sing - Hit Songs from London, вышедшего на Alshire (S-5159).

Among musicians, Arthur Alexander was always considered one of the greatest R&B songwriters. Both the Beatles and the Rolling Stones covered his songs, "Anna (Go to Him)" and "You Better Move On," respectively, early in their careers. But they weren't the only ones -- throughout the years, his work was rich source material for many blues, soul, rock, and country artists. He may have earned the recognition of his peers, but he remained relatively unknown to the general public, right up to his death in 1993. In order to raise his profile, Razor & Tie released Adios Amigo: A Tribute to Arthur Alexander in 1994, assembling a stellar and diverse lineup to record new versions of his songs. The diversity and the fresh arrangements illustrates the depth of Alexander's songs and how well they lent themselves to new readings. Like any tribute album,  with a few tracks falling flat, but the best moments -- Elvis Costello's "Sally Sue Brown," Robert Plant's "If It's Really Got to Be This Way," Chuck Jackson's "You Better Move On," Frank Black's "Old John Amos," John Prine's "Lonely Just Like Me," Gary U.S. Bonds' "Genie in the Jug," Graham Parker's "Every Day I Have to Cry" and Nick Lowe's "In the Middle of It All" -- are affectionate salutes to a departed master, and they're damn enjoyable in their own right as well.
