"Trip" was the Austrian version of the musical "Hair", just a bit more extreme in all its facets. The 1971 produced by ORF hippie opera once scared the Austrian television audience, as here drug-consuming, long-haired adolescents were shown who seek a way out of reality and find their redeemer in a dodgy guru. Embedded in glaring stage sets designed by the painter Ernst Fuchs, the narrative ultimately imploded in a hallucinogenic horror trip. The visual impression was further enhanced by a well-prepared soundtrack under the direction of Viennese musician legend Fatty George, who experimented with sitar, psychedelic funk and quirky jazz elements. In his band were future superstars, such as Karl Ratzer, Peter Wolf, Richard Schoenherz and Leszek Zadlo, who were still at the beginning of their career in 1971. After the finished production of the soundtrack, the jazz musicians joined the ORF Big Band collective, the rockers founded Gipsy Love. The "Trip" is not only an important piece of local pop history, but is universally considered among experts one of the most successful music productions of the local hippie era. Digatone present the first official reissue of Fatty George Und Silke Schwinger’s Trip the long lost and extremely rare Austrian hippie-rock/jazz/funk opera score from 1971. Features, among others, Su Kramer (also known from the Hair album and stage play featuring Czechoslovakian band The Matadors), Fatty George, Karl Ratzer, Peter Wolf, Richard Schoenherz, and Leszek Zadlo. Originally released in 1972 by Telefunken in Germany in a small quantity, and now highly collectable, the LP combines funk, pop, psychedelia, acid jazz, and gospel. Performed with electric guitar, flute, organ, sitar, and more, this music has been frequently sampled in recent years. Produced for Austrian TV, the story is about a guru who comes to Vienna to preach about a world with no technology, but with lots of drugs. Trip was an early 70s Austrian pop-opera concerning the reception given to a black messiah in the modern age. Touching on the youth concerns of the time, it made a strong impact in Austria, where this extremely rare soundtrack album was issued in 1972. Spanning funk, pop, acid jazz and gospel, with electric guitar, flute, organ, sitar and more, it has been sampled in recent years (notably the epic breakbeat in White Sand) and makes its CD debut here…..~
“Trip” is an Austrian rock opera about a guru who came to Vienna to preach life without modern technology, but with a lot of drugs, from which he eventually dies himself. The work was created by scriptwriter Silke Schwinger and jazz musician Franz Pressler (nicknamed Fetty George). It was first staged in 1971 on the stage of the Salzburg Festival, and then appeared as an album and a television movie. The recording is a jazz-funk with a powerful psychedelic guitar and a rich vocal palette…..~

Today we are dedicated to a sensational, ultimately completely forgotten climax of domestic television history and its accompanying soundtrack. Based on a play by Silke Schwinger, the revolutionary TV show “Trip” was shot in 1971 within a few days of filming. On August 8th, it aired on the ORF’s night program - and then disappeared into the archives, singing and singing.
The plot of the film is simple and good: A self-proclaimed Messiah, the charismatic preacher Ronny Nia comes to Vienna for 10 days to proclaim the universal love of God. Already on his arrival at the airport, he and his entourage expect a euphoric teen fanbase and a local press service. Unforgettable is the young Peter Rapp as an interviewing - and visibly irritated - TV reporter. All around: television cameras, autograph hunters, flower children, police.
Peppered with a top-class ensemble of German-speaking stage actors of the day (such as Julia Migenes, Su Kramer and Ron Williams), the “Trip” accompanies a group of young hippies, who have quickly formed around the prominent guest, at their debauchery, from an underground happening to the next. It is hilariously celebrated, danced and sung. And yes, drugs are probably also in the game.
But it comes, as it must come: After the initial ecstasy crashes, disillusionment and depression follow. As a member of the gang dies of an overdose, the mood tips. And since religious leader Ron still has no essential answers, the group finally breaks up. Remarkably, the narrative of “Trip” renounces the upscale, moral index finger and, in the meantime, steers towards an open, impulsive end.
The experimental design of the film, for which director Jorg Eggers was responsible, is groundbreaking for viewing habits at that time. Minute-long scenes of a single shot are followed by hallucinogenic nightmare sequences with psychedelic transitions and fast-paced sequences; an aesthetic reminiscent of the work of American underground filmmaker Kenneth Anger. A stage design specially designed by the painter Ernst Fuchs does the rest.
The media review in Austria, which was accompanied by the first broadcast of the film, however, was modest. Apparently, neither the local audience nor critics could figure it out. The film then disappeared again in the sinking and in the archives of the ORF. The soundtrack of the film, which appeared a short time later as long-playing record at the German major label Telefunken, but over the years developed into a sought-after cult object. Meanwhile, the eponymous “Trip” LP collects collector prices in three digits.
The Innsbruck cultural club Digatone has now dug up the rare soundtrack and makes the music from the film accessible again as lovingly made reissue. A strong gun: Under the direction of the Viennese jazz legend Fatty George, the cast of the “Trip” music-music orchestra on late-born babies seems like a little who-is-who of domestic entertainment music of the early 1970s: Fatty’s band had some later superstars Karl Ratzer, Peter Wolf, Richard Schoenherz and Leszek Zadlo, who were still at the beginning of their careers in 1971. The illustrious collective was expanded to include well-known jazz musicians from the ORF Big Band environment. And peng! The “Trip” soundtrack is a masterpiece of domestic soul jazz and also a significant piece of local pop and subculture history…..by….Bird Sputnik…..~

         Ансамбль был создан осенью 1971 года его основателем и художественным руководителем Владимиром Васильевым при Львовском аптекоуправлении, при поддержке управляющей управления Васильевой Веры Николаевны (мать Владимира Васильева), путем объединения музыкантов из двух коллективов: ВИА "Эврика", где музыкальным руководителем был талантливый джазовый музыкант Юрий Варум, и джаз-ансамбля Игоря Хомы "Медикус" (музыкальный руководитель - известный трубач Владимир Кот), к которым также присоединился композитор, певец и гитарист Виктор Морозов из "Quo Vadis". "Медикус" в то время уже был известным в СССР джаз-коллективом - в 1966 и 1967 годах принимал участие в знаменитых Таллиннских джаз-фестивалях, а "Quo vadis" Морозова тогда отличился тем, что сделал первую хард-роковую аранжировку песни "Червона рута ". Название ансамбля было дано в честь лекарственного растения арники. 

         Первым музыкальным руководителем ВИА "Арника" был Владимир Кот, со временем эти обязанности стал исполнять В.Морозов, а с 1976г. по 1981г. - А.Левинсон. Продюсерские функции всегда выполнял В.Васильев.

         В первом составе ансамбле участвовали еще три экс-участники "Медикуса": Иван Господарец (барабаны), Мирослав Цюпак (гитара), Игорь Гунько (бас), а также Владимир Копоть (труба), Б. Заяц (тромбон), Орест Дутко (клавишные,саксофон), Ольга Щербакова (вокал), Владимир Летунов (вокал).

         В 1972 "Арника" победила во Всесоюзном телеконкурсе "Алло, мы ищем таланты" и записала на Всесоюзной фирме грамзаписи "Мелодия" пластинку-миньон. В пластинку вошли обработанные В. Морозовым украинская народная песня "Чорні очка, як терен" и стрелецкая "Чорна рілля ізорана", ставшие впоследствии классическими.

         В 1973 году "Арника" записала вторую пластинку (гигант), куда вошли обработки народных песен, поп-шлягеры и арт-джаз-роковая сюита "Весна". Последнее произведение стало свидетельством чрезвычайного профессионализма музыкантов "Арники", их новаторства и чувства времени: даже в Москве джаз-рок тогда еще не играли. Сюита стала первым произведением в этом стиле в СССР.

         Впоследствии в ансамбле появились новые участники - юная певица Виктория Врадий, клавишник Валерий Галица, гитарист Валентин Нестеренко, тромбонист Виктор Арсеньев. 

         С середины 70-х "Арника" становится одним из самых популярных ВИА Украины. В это время коллектив сотрудничает с композитором, отставным генералом милиции Алексеем Экимяном, автором супер-хита "Сонячний дощ", прославивший "Арнику" на весь Союз. Однако в 1976 году в финале телефестиваля "Песня-76" песню "Сонячний дощ" коммунистические деятели доверили выполнять более благонадежному певцу Юрию Богатикову. После этого случая из "Арники", которую стали притеснять, ушли ее лидеры Виктор Морозов, Иван Попович и трубач Владимир Копоть. Они создали ВИА "Ровесник", позднее переименованный в "Ватра", а Владимир Кот создал новый ВИА "Маки". О.Дутко возглавил Ивано-Франковский филармонический ВИА "Беркут".

         В 1976 году произошло трагическое событие - не стало мецената ансамбля Васильевой В.М. Не имея ее важной поддержки, ансамбль в этом составе перестает существовать. 

         Вскоре руководитель "Арники" Васильев восстанавливает состав ансамбля, и приглашает к сотрудничеству таких известных музыкантов и вокалистов как: А.Левинсон - музыкальный руководитель, соло-гитара, И.Порецкий - клавишные, М Попович - труба, Ю.Гарт - бас-гитара, И.Трух - саксофон, В.Назаров - ударные, Ю.Матийчин - вокал, А.Яремко - вокал, А.Жукевич - вокал, С.Соляник - вокал, а впоследствии - Роман Лозинский - скрипка, Зеновий Левковский - клавишные и Михаил Лундин - ударные. В этом составе ансамбль продолжает творческую деятельность до 1981 года. "Арника" принимает участие во Всесоюзном фестивале песни "Крымские зори" в г. Ялта, записывает на фирме "Мелодия" еще одну пластинку-миньон с песнями "Зозуля", "Шаленець", "В Самборі" (последняя - в стиле "диско") , которые были очень популярны в то время. 

         В 1979 году "Арника" становится лауреатом Республиканского фестиваля песни (г.Хмельницкий) и получает диплом Государственного комитета Совета Министров СССР по телевидению и радиовещанию. 

         Музыканты "Арники" одними из первых поняли, что жанр ВИА себя уже исчерпал, и они снова возвращаются к джаз-року, теперь уже электронному - ансамбль нашел свое продолжение в новой джаз-роковой формации "Лабиринт". В 1985 году "Лабиринт" выжили из Украины (в Горьковскую филармонию), и вскоре он распался. Юрий Варум руководил группой "Эхо" Валерия Леонтьева и аранжировал песни для Аллы Пугачевой. Солистка "Арники" и "Лабиринта" Виктория Врадий ("Сестричка Вика") училась в Москве, затем долгое время была рок-певицей № 1 в Украине. Владимир Кот вместе с участниками первого состава "Арники" в 1992 году возобновил джазовый ансамбль "Медикус". 

         В разные периоды своей творческой жизни судьба подарила "Арнике" возможность сотрудничать с такими известными авторами и композиторами, как: Ю.Варум, А.Экимян, Ю.Рыбчинский, Б.Янивский, Б.Стельмах, Р.Хабаль, Я.Виджак. Особенно дружеские отношения, еще с 1972 г., сложились у "Арники" с ансамблем "Смеричка", Н.Яремчуком, звукорежиссером В.Стриховичем, В.Ивасюком, который часто приходил к ним на репетиции и наигрывал свои новые произведения, а также принял участие в записи песни "Вишнева 

сопілка" (бэк-вокал). 

         На сегодняшний день участники "Арники" отличились весомыми достижениями в музыкальном мире. Так , Ю.Варум стал известным композитором и продюсером Анжелики Варум , Виктор Морозов сегодня известный композитор, певец, поэт и переводчик, В.Кот - лауреат многих международных джазовых конкурсов и фестивалей, Виктория Врадий - лауреат фестиваля "Червона рута", в 1992 г. получила титул "Мисс Рок- Европа" , Ольга Щербакова - лауреат многих конкурсов артистов эстрады, стала заслуженной артисткой Украины, Л.Зиммер - основатель фирмы "Rank - concert " (ФРГ) по производству Hi-Fi аппаратуры. 

         В 2006г. во Львове ансамбль отпраздновал свое 35-летие, с большим успехом прошел юбилейный концерт , на который приехали участники " Арники" из США, Германии , Израиля и России. Вскоре художественный руководитель ансамбля Васильев подготовил к изданию компакт -диск "Арники" , посвященный 40-летию коллектива, которое отмечалось в 2011 году. 

         Осенью 2000-го Виктор Морозов временно собрал бывших музыкантов "Арники" и выступил с ними во время празднования 10-ти летия "Революции на граните".

Interesting is their cover of “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” on “Merry Christmas” lp. Don’t get me wrong, I hate world music but this is pretty cool. Let’s dance to the South Korean Go Go Sound !!!

Among musicians, Arthur Alexander was always considered one of the greatest R&B songwriters. Both the Beatles and the Rolling Stones covered his songs, "Anna (Go to Him)" and "You Better Move On," respectively, early in their careers. But they weren't the only ones -- throughout the years, his work was rich source material for many blues, soul, rock, and country artists. He may have earned the recognition of his peers, but he remained relatively unknown to the general public, right up to his death in 1993. In order to raise his profile, Razor & Tie released Adios Amigo: A Tribute to Arthur Alexander in 1994, assembling a stellar and diverse lineup to record new versions of his songs. The diversity and the fresh arrangements illustrates the depth of Alexander's songs and how well they lent themselves to new readings. Like any tribute album,  with a few tracks falling flat, but the best moments -- Elvis Costello's "Sally Sue Brown," Robert Plant's "If It's Really Got to Be This Way," Chuck Jackson's "You Better Move On," Frank Black's "Old John Amos," John Prine's "Lonely Just Like Me," Gary U.S. Bonds' "Genie in the Jug," Graham Parker's "Every Day I Have to Cry" and Nick Lowe's "In the Middle of It All" -- are affectionate salutes to a departed master, and they're damn enjoyable in their own right as well.
